Victorian Architecture Awards 2025 Shortlist Revealed with 384 Projects Across 15 Categories
The Australian Institute of Architects has announced the shortlist for the 2025 Victorian Architecture Awards, with the largest number of entries of all Australian states, and a total of 384 submissions across 15 categories including Sustainable Architecture, Regional Architecture, Heritage and the popular Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing Category.
The 2025 Victorian Architecture Awards will be presented at the Awards Night Dinner on Friday 27 June at the Pullman Albert Park. Winners of the Victorian Awards will be entered into the National Architecture Awards, announced in November.
In 2025 significant regional projects to be shortlisted include Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, by Lyons, in the Public Architecture category. As well as the Geelong Laneways: Malop Arcade building in central Geelong by NMBW Architecture Studio with ASPECT Studios, shortlisted in the Regional Prize category.
Striking examples of the Interior Architecture category from residential projects include Murran – First Nations Business, Retail and Arts Hub by Dawn Architecture, she sells seashells by multiplicity and Eva and Marc Besen Centre by Kerstin Thompson Architects also nominated for Regional Prize and Sustainable Architecture.
The Sustainable Category features projects such as Northern Memorial Park Depot by Searle x Waldron Architecture, also nominated for the Commercial Architecture and Melbourne Prize; and Woodleigh Regenerative Futures Studio by Mcildowie Partners with Joost Bakker, also nominated in the Educational Architecture category.
Run annually by the Victorian Chapter of the Institute, the Victorian Architecture Awards celebrate the best architecture across the state, collectively showcasing the positive impacts of architects in shaping the built landscape for all Victorians.
The Exhibition of Entries is a rare opportunity for the public and industry peers to view the state’s best and most recent architectural outcomes drawn from this year’s submissions. The public is welcome to view the remarkable work at Deakin University, Burwood from Monday, April 7.
“This year’s awards program continues to illustrate the contribution architects make, from local community facilities and the adaptive reuse of existing buildings to the larger footprint of city-shaping infrastructure projects,” said Hamish Lyon LFRAIA, NH Architecture, 2025 Chair of Juries.
“Against the backdrop of climate change, economic uncertainties, and the need for greater access to housing, it is encouraging to see the significant role that many of this year’s entrants are making to address these contemporary challenges.”
