Temple & Webster Emerging Designer Award 2014
Design Duo, Edward Linacre & Viktor Legin of design studio Copper, have been chosen as the winner of the Temple & Webster Emerging Designer Award for 2014.
The Temple & Webster Emerging Designer Award is a celebration of the design, work and careers of ten of the country’s most exciting emerging furniture and interiors product designers. Not only does it aim to promote the career of the winner, it also gives the general public access to beautiful and unique Australian design.
The prize includes fantastic exposure to Temple & Webster’s database of over 700,000 members, a media publicity campaign and, as the official winners of the Emerging Designer Award 2014, Ed & Viktor will also receive a major cash prize of $5,000.
Following a nationwide public vote and sale of their products on templeandwebster.com.au, the 10 finalists were shortlisted for the consideration of the independent panel of leading Australian design influencers including; David Clark, author and ex-editor of Vogue Living Australia; David Harrison, design commentator and founder of Design Daily; Amanda Talbot, design consultant and Style Editor of Sunday Life, and Karen McCartney, Editorial Director at Temple & Webster, who unanimously selected Edward Linacre & Viktor Legin as the winners.
Karen McCartney said: “While it is usual to say the judges had a hard choice to make – it was very true in this instance. We all felt privileged to have such a talented pool to draw from and there could have been any number of winners. In the end we all agreed on Edward Linacre and
Viktor Legin of Copper and feel very proud to be able to offer them the Temple & Webster Emerging Designer Award for 2014.”
Viktor and Edward collaborate under their design banner Copper, a product development consultancy with a diverse range of clients and offering a range of furniture, lighting and custom interiors solutions.
David Harrison, Founder of Design Daily said: “Edward Linacre and Viktor Legin are a design studio that has an unusually wide range of approaches to materials and concepts, spanning the minimalist and spare, to organic forms inspired by nature. Their ability to turn every aspect of their work into highly resolved products is extremely impressive.”
“This duo are original thinkers with a strong design career ahead of them,” added Amanda Talbot. Copper was also highly commended for their influential role in educating young talent. “By adopting a spirit of generosity, through the teaching and encouragement of design students, they are embracing a fundamental aspect of design,” said David Clark, author and ex-editor Vogue Living.
Coco Reynolds of Marz Designs, also comes out a winner after generating successful results during the Emerging Designer sale and strong public voting “This year, we’re also delighted to formally acknowledge Coco Reynolds of Marz Designs as our People’s Choice winner. Coco’s works resonated strongly with our members both in terms of voting with their clicks and their credit cards”, says Adam McWhinney, Co-Founder, Temple & Webster.
