Sustainable Architecture and bike tours
The first of its kind in Australia, ART+CLIMATE=CHANGE includes over 25 curated exhibitions in galleries around Melbourne and regional Victoria, with a series of tours running as part of the festival to complement and showcase various elements of the program.
For one day only on Sunday 3 May, leading Melbourne-based architecture and design writer Stephen Crafti will lead the Sustainable Architecture Tour. This unique tour will visit four incredible homes designed with sustainability in mind by some of Melbourne’s leading architects.
The Sustainable Architecture Tour presents a rare opportunity for internal viewings of four private Melbourne homes, including one of the stunning apartments in the WestWyck development in Brunswick West (pictured).
“I love showing people not only great architecture, but those that are ‘outside the box’,” says Stephen. “Combining fine design with sustainable principles is the way of the future.”
Stephen has written over 40 books on architecture and design as well as numerous articles for leading design magazines, journals and newspapers, and runs four ‘architours’ a year.
The Squeaky Wheel invites festival-goers to set their wheels in motion with ART+CLIMATE=CHANGE2015 bicycle tours.
Four tours will run on weekends in May, with each 2.5-hour tour to visit four festival locations. There will be informative talks from curators or artists at each stop.
Squeaky Wheelers are invited to bring their own bicycle in good working order, or hire one from the Melbourne Bike Share station at the corner of Federation Square. Please wear appropriate brightly coloured clothing and BYO water bottle and sunscreen. The tours will be conducted via on road bike lanes in city traffic, and are not recommended for inexperienced riders.
All bike tours will meet at the ART+CLIMATE=CHANGE2015 Hub at The Maldives Exodus Caravan Show in the Amphitheatre, Federation Square (between Melbourne Visitors Centre and ACMI on Flinders St – just look for the caravan with a floating island on top!).
CLIMARTE produces, promotes and facilitates arts events with an alliance of arts practitioners and organisations that advocate for immediate, effective and creative action on climate change. ART+CLIMATE=CHANGE2015 will inform, engage and inspire, delivering an expansive and stimulating series of events that can help lead us towards a creative, just and sustainable future.
