Smooth transitioning between old & new spaces with mafi natural oak floorboards

Located in Melbourne’s Albert Park, this three bedroom family home designed by Nicholas Murray Architects involved extensive renovations and extensions to an existing Victorian terrace house.

The clients wanted smooth blending and transitioning between the old and new spaces. Mafi Oak floors work really well for both the heritage and contemporary parts of the building and tie the various spaces together with a lovely walking surface that has a natural timber aesthetic and is practical to maintain and live with.

Mafi Oak Character Brushed Natural Oil 240mm wide boards were selected for the open plan kitchen, dining and living room floors. Mafi Oak Character is a warm golden colour, with a subtle surface characteristic. It falls in between the Oak Country grade with lots of natural knots and crack lines, and Oak Clear that is free from any imperfections.

Natural timber is well loved for its unique ability to work beautifully in many different applications within the one space. The warmth of this home can be felt from the moment you look inside. The European oak radiates a sense of pure and timeless comfort and contrasts the modern black and charcoal tones.

Oak Country Brushed Natural Oil is celebrated for its large natural knots and crack lines and features on both the wine cellar and rumpus room walls. Custom made mafi stairs lead down to the ground level.
