Nightingale
Following on from the success of The Commons in Melbourne, Breathe are collaborating with a group of fellow architects to build a apartment development model that can be replicated.
Nightingale is a triple bottom line development with apartments that are environmentally, socially and financially sustainable. The ultimate goal of the project is to provide quality urban housing at an affordable price by simplifying both the development process and the building itself.
Their aim is to utilise a simplified development model that is honest and sustainable through an exercise in reduction. By taking out all that is unnecessary to increase quality and reduce cost simultaneously. This was the approach at The Commons and these learnings will be applied  at Nightingale.
Beyond designing another ‘sustainable’ building that is 8 star rated and well-performing, the aim is to create a more affordable urban housing template that others can use as a tool for urban betterment.
It is the intention that this project be replicated by other architects with similar goals, with hope to engender an industry-wide attitude towards architectural activism via architect as ethical developer.
