AGWA Design and Industry Awards 2024 – Residential Window/Glass Retrofit Project

Set on a 45 degree steep slope, this home renovation and addition is in the highest Bushfire Zone BAL-FZ and high wind area. The building rests on 43 poles, and is built over several levels with difficult access.

The design brief asked for a very large, glazed, movable elements without a corner post, opening the house to the ocean, and the adjoining National Park.

Originally tested to 2400x2400mm, Paarhammer’s Bushfire Safe products required a re-engineering of life-slide sliding doors and stacker doors to come up with an engineering solution for wider expansions and multiple of these.

It included a frameless corner where glazed lift-slide doors stack back eight metres, opening the house to the ocean, and four & a half metres on the park side to provide uninterrupted access to suspended decks and stunning views.

All windows and doors in this project comply with AS3959-2018 Flame Zone (BAL-FZ) for building in Bushfire prone areas. These products are also double glazed for energy efficiency.
