Container Cabin with AliClad Doors and Windows

A prefabricated build of four 40 foot shipping containers was the design choice to minimise construction impact on the precious open woodland coastal block on Victoria’s Surfcoast. Miglas was selected as the requirement was for BAL 40 rated double glazed doors and windows. The AliClad range met the requirements of BAL 40 and a weather resistant exterior plus the owners’ desire to have an internal timber finish.

All the doors and windows were installed during prefabrication apart from two picture windows extending across joined containers in the kitchen and master bedroom. The home was oriented to maximise  solar-gain through the 12 metre glazed north west facing kitchen and living space. The owners’ expectations have been surpassed with the insulation ability of the double glazed thermally broken windows.
