Good Design Award for Architectural Design

Melbourne company Harwyn has won the prestigious 2015 Good Design Award for Commercial and Residential Architecture for its range of prefabricated building pods. Presented by Good Design Australia the award was announced in Sydney on 29 May to a gala event audience as part of the 2015 Good Design Festival, in association with VIVID Sydney. Harwyn’s pods were acknowledged as a perfect example of form meets function.

Beautifully created and intelligently designed by renowned Melbourne architect, Selwyn Blackstone, Harwyn Pods were conceived to meet increasing demand for more flexible and creative types of spaces as Australians continue to evolve the way they live, work and play. Manufactured in Australia using PIR panels and Alucobond cladding, with a build quality in line with the best commercial building in the world, the self-contained, customisable ‘Harwyns’ are setting a new benchmark for innovative building models.

A major achievement for such a young company, Harwyn fought off stiff competition in its category from much larger developments, Dockside Pavilion by Warwick Bell and Hydronaut by Mark Richardson and Studiobird.

Dating back to 1958, the Good Design Awards are one of the longest standing and most esteemed design awards in the world, offering a globally respected endorsement as a symbol of an organisation’s commitment to design excellence. Still one of the few design programs to physically evaluate and test product entries for assessment, the judging experts take great pride in setting international best practice in design evaluation benchmarking.

Harwyn pods now sit alongside some of Australia’s most iconic designs that have found national recognition following their Good Design Award, including the Hills Hoist, the Caroma Dual Flush toilet and the RØDE microphone.
