Double Take in Wood exhibition

The work of 38 of the nations most talented woodworkers, designers and makers will be on show at Manningham Art Gallery this October. The exhibitors have been selected by a Victorian Woodworkers Association jury to showcase the best in Australian woodcraft.

Titled ‘Double Take in Wood’, the exhibition combines two of the Victorian Woodworkers Association’s most successful exhibitions, the Fine Woodworking show, which has not been hosted for over five years, and Create from a Crate, the popular environmentally focused exhibition that challenges woodworkers to create a masterpiece from the humble timber pallet.

The exhibition will provide visitors with the opportunity to see how the Australian woodworking community are utilising age old techniques, embracing sustainable materials, innovating, through the use of new technologies and celebrating Australian and other fine timbers.

With a prize pool valued at over $10,000, the exhibition has attracted a diverse and talented group of entrants from across Australia. Victorian Woodworkers Association President, Jerome Wielens, said, “I am excited by the calibre of entries. The exhibition is going to provide a comprehensive survey of Australian woodworking design, innovation and craftsmanship.”

“The exhibition includes both decorative and functional objects and furniture pieces, including sculptures, clocks, chairs, musical instruments and furniture influenced by both classic and contemporary design movements. The diversity of techniques, materials and styles will ensure the exhibition provides something for everyone, including skilled and novice woodworkers, lovers of good design, or those in search of an heirloom piece of furniture for their home.”

Exhibition Opening: 18th October – 6-8pm
Exhibition Dates: 19th October – 11th November 2017.
