Brisbanites to lunch and gift solar lights to PNG
Brisbane-based charity SolarBuddy is launching its first public campaign, the Brisbane Light Lunch. This is an opportunity to get Brisbanites together over lunch and assemble solar lights which will be gifted to children living in remote, off-grid communities in Papua New Guinea.
For the next five weeks, Brisbane will come to know more about the SolarBuddy campaign and together, from Monday 5 August to Friday 16 August, 2019, friends, families, and community groups will gather for solar lights assembling activity across Brisbane.
Each light costs $35, with a minimum order of five lights. One in five people live in energy poverty around the world, and most households in need have five family members. Between you and four buddies, your order of five lights will go directly to five children and impact 25 people.
SolarBuddy will feature on GOA Billboards during this period as part of GOA’s Community Partnership Program. This interactive campaign will feature participants on GOA Billboards around the CBD when they take a photo of their team building lights and post it to Instagram using #BNELightLunch.
Following three years of disrupting the charity landscape through an innovative program where the giver builds a solar light to gift to children living in energy poverty, SolarBuddy is starting at home with its first public campaign by inviting Brisbane to lead the way in how they do lunch and illuminate children’s futures.
SolarBuddy has big dream to gift six million solar lights to children living in energy poverty by 2030, to help improve their education outcomes and break the cycle of poverty they are born into.
Since SolarBuddy launched in May 2016, it has donated over 100 000 lights to children all over the world and educated over 150 000 students.
