Workshopped 15 Design in Architecture

WORKSHOPPED is the name of arguably Australia’s longest continuously running annual exhibition showcasing emerging Australian design talent. For the past 15 years, the annual WORKSHOPPED exhibitions have provided a platform for Australian designers to reach national and international audiences including manufacturers, retailers, fellow designers and consumers at large.

To date, WORKSHOPPED has presented the work of over 350 up and coming Australian designers through 14 exhibitions, which have been viewed by over half a million people.

2015 marks WORKSHOPPED’s 15th exhibition, and this year designers have been asked to respond to the broader topic of ‘the role of design in architecture’. Following the assessment process, it is expected the work of approximately 50 designers will ultimately make up this year’s exhibition, which will take place on the upper levels of the retail design destination known as Supa Centa Moore Park, Sydney.

WORKSHOPPED ’15 will open to the public on Thursday, August 6 and extend for a period of three weeks. Over 75,000 are expected to view the exhibition across the centre’s premium designer levels.

Since its inception, WORKSHOPPED has had a significant impact on the greater design industry at large, and particularly the lives and careers of several notable designers, whose works have been identified by industry peers and consumers alike as the mark of future design stars. Kate Stokes first exhibited her Coco Pendant in WORKSHOPPED ‘10. The stunning light piece, manufactured in Melbourne, has gone on to receive enormous media attention and is regularly featured in prestigious design titles both here in Australia and internationally. Most importantly, it now graces many local and international homes, as well as several leading commercial developments. A real Australian design success story.

“We’ve seen the participation of hundreds of Australian designers thus far in varying stages of their careers,” said Raymond Scott of WORKSHOPPED. “It’s fantastic watching the evolution of these talented people and their products, and while it takes many years to build a professional profile, it’s been exciting to play a part in the development of so many, including Adam Goodrum, Gary Galego, Life Space Journey’s Justin Lamont, Henry Wilson, Evie Groups, Alex Gilmour and Dominic Chong.

“We’re looking forward to seeing both new and perhaps not so new faces participate in WORKSHOPPED ‘15 and this year’s theme of architecture,” said Scott.

Exhibiting designers, along with leaders from the greater design industry and media, will celebrate WORKSHOPPED ’15 with an official ‘invitation only’ launch party on Wednesday, 5 August 2015.
