Future Food System by Joost Bakker to be extended

After taking up residency at Fed Square’s River Terrace to demonstrate the sustainability blueprint of the future, Fed Square have announced Future Food System by Joost will be extended until June 2022 with a 3D virtual tour available for the very first time.

The self-sustaining, 87-square-metre home and urban farm will continue to be occupied by award-winning chefs Matt Stone and Jo Barrett, where they will attempt to live solely off the food and resources on-site as they pioneer a ground-breaking, zero-waste approach to food and living.

Future Food System is the brainchild of visionary eco-innovator Joost Bakker, whose latest vision is an example of our potential to creative positive impact by changing the way we build, live and eat.

Of his vision for the project, Joost Bakker said: “I’m a firm believer in inspiring change through action and Future Food System is a living and breathing example of that. I genuinely believe we can live sustainably through educating people on solutions which bring about positive change.”

With Fed Square firmly focused on its commitment to a sustainable future, this announcement will be followed by a new and exciting program unveil, which includes Fed Square’s upcoming Sustainable September Festival.

Fed Square CEO Caroline Ralphsmith said: “We are thrilled to extend our partnership with Future Food System by Joost at Fed Square and we feel privileged to be home to one of Australia’s most innovative sustainability experiments. At Fed Square we believe it is imperative to support and promote innovation in this field and the Future Food System is a real example of our joint commitment to ensuring a sustainable future for the broader Melbourne community and future generations to come.”

Fed Square’s environmental sustainability credentials have been front of mind since the precinct was first constructed 18 years ago, with new initiatives developed over time to ensure sustainability remains at the forefront. Since early 2019, Fed Square Pty Ltd is proudly carbon neutral. One hundred per cent of the carbon emissions specifically derived from Fed Square Pty Ltd’s operational activities are offset.
