Green Cities to host tour of Melbourne

In March, Australia’s largest green building conference, Green Cities, heads to Melbourne. And some of the city’s most sustainable buildings are opening their doors for inspection.

Check out Medibank’s office at 720 Bourke Street, and see how sustainability and productivity collide in one of the nation’s healthiest workplaces. Medibank’s people can select from 26 types of work settings, from tranquil indoor spaces to collaborative hubs, wifi-enabled balconies to standing desks. Lighting mimics natural daylight, more than 2,300 plants scrub the air of harmful chemicals, and around 10 per cent of the building’s façade is covered in native plants. Just months after moving in, four in five staff said they were working more collaboratively, and nearly two-thirds felt healthier.

Or join us to inspect the North Fitzroy Library and Community Hub, a library that is much more than just a repository for books. The three-storey building features maternal child health services, playgroup spaces, a council customer service centre, community meeting rooms, exhibition space and a spectacular rooftop garden. Take the site tour to get a first-hand look at the range of sustainable design features – from solar panels to rainwater collection – that delivered a world leadership 6 Star Green Star rating.

From 13-15 March, join the politicians, policy makers, industry decision-makers and practitioners working on real-world projects as we explore the theme of ‘Energising Communities’. Book a site tour or conference ticket at: greencities.org.au
