Registrations Are Now Open for the Powerhouse Ultimo Design Competition

CityLab has announced that Registrations of Interest for the Powerhouse Ultimo Design Competition are now open.

Underpinned by a transformative $480-$500 million investment by the NSW Government, the Powerhouse Ultimo Renewal will establish a world-class museum that will significantly contribute to a vital design, technology and cultural precinct in the heart of Sydney’s CBD.

The next phase will include an Expression of Interest, followed by a Design Competition.

Bringing together adaptive heritage reuse and contemporary museum practice, the renewal will see Powerhouse Ultimo deliver new and refurbished exhibition spaces dedicated to design and fashion alongside, expanded support for creative industries and renewed spaces connecting and integrating the Powerhouse with the Sydney CBD.

CityLab is the Competition Advisor for the Powerhouse Ultimo Design Competition.

Practising architects from around Australia are invited to present their vision for the renewal of one of the nation’s leading cultural institutions, which will see Powerhouse Ultimo become a vitalising force in a vibrant precinct that actively contributes to the growing night-time and visitor economies.

Registrations will close at 12pm AEST on 29 July 2022.
