Pop Up Horticulture

Experience pop up horticulture, that is, ‘real’ classes from real courses.

You can visit the green roof garden, find out about the conservation of indigenous plants, and learn about growing heirloom vegetables and heritage fruit.

Available for interview is Fred Hellreigel, the course coordinator of the new gardener program.

“We are all excited as we will be launching the University of Melbourne’s new Urban Food Growing course.”

“Also industry experts, who also teach at Burnley, will provide food-growing tips and discuss varieties and flavor in heirloom vegetables and heritage fruit.”

Also available for interview: Current students willing to talk about their horticulture as a career journey so far.

 Current student Rina Lee, said,

“The Master in Urban Horticulture is much more than understanding plants and aesthetic, it’s also about water sustainability; soil management; and the impact on human thermal comfort such as insulation from heat or chill.”

“I started my journey with a hobby course at Burnley – Discovering Horticulture. It was so interesting so I enrolled in the Grad Cert in Garden Design. I am back again to do a Master of Urban Horticulture and I am thinking about doing PhD that explores Feng Shui designs.”

“My biggest surprise in studying horticulture was how “clever” plants are – their resilience and abilities to survive in the most trying conditions – a bit like humans.”

Rina and other students will also be available at Burnley Information day.

There is something for everyone at the Burnley campus …and their inner plant enthusiasts.
