Neometro launches Brunswick, Melbourne apartments

A blueprint for high-density happiness has been unveiled in Brunswick, with homebuyers now able to purchase their own stake in the concept, thanks to the launch of Neometro’s new 17 Union Street apartments at Jewell Station.

With unparalleled connectivity to public transport, the 43 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments are located in the most vibrant part of Brunswick, near sprawling parklands, cafes, bars, galleries and the attractions of Carlton, Parkville and the CBD.

With a 30-year history of creating liveable and award-winning apartments, Neometro has gone beyond the built form to create well-designed homes that support wellbeing and connection by delivering social infrastructure that enables communities to thrive.

The project is a collaboration between Neometro and fellow design advocates BKK Architects and Clare Cousins Architects and is part of the revitalised Jewell Station precinct, with rejuvenated bike paths, community gardens and public art on the doorstep.

According to Neometro Design Director Jeff Provan, these parties have come together to create an exemplary project that focuses on the way individuals will live, prosper and enjoy their apartment.

“This project is built on the idea that well-designed apartments support wellbeing and connection in the community, an ethos that reflects our commitment to High Density Happiness,” Mr Provan says.

According to BKK Architects’ Simon Knott, who conceived 17 Union Street’s architectural concept, the project’s surrounding streetscape strongly influenced its design.

“We designed 17 Union Street with a strong focus on contextual materiality drawn from the surrounding urban context,” Mr Knott says.

“The building has an expressed concrete structure that provides a robust framework to house diverse indoor and outdoor spaces, giving a human scale and depth to its façade.”

“Steel, finely detailed masonry and timber infill components articulate the individual homes and provide the building’s skin with a distinctly tactile quality.”

Structural features include open air corridors for natural ventilation, rooftop gardens that add to the local ecosystem, and canvas shade awnings that promote passive cooling of the generous balconies. Double-glazed windows, recycled water storage, rooftop solar panels, and bicycle service stations are also included.

When it came to the interiors, Clare Cousins Architects delivered intimate and balanced schemes focused on context, space and quality materials.

According to Principal Clare Cousins, materials at 17 Union Street were chosen for their longevity and durability.
“Solid timber handles, shades of warm grey and oak flooring provide an enduring interior composition,” Ms Cousins says.
“Where possible, we try to use natural and textured materials that will stand up to daily wear-and-tear over time.”

In-built design is a hallmark of all Neometro projects and the team has worked with Clare Cousins to create flexible spaces with study nooks, feature wall panels, open shelving, full height windows, thermal and acoustic insulation, concealed air-conditioning, track lighting, polished timber floors, stainless steel benchtops, joinery with timber handles and the choice of two colour schemes.

Sized from 49- to 123-square-metres and priced from $435,000 to $1,195,000, apartments at 17 Union Street are expected to commence construction in late-2018.
