Issue 56 is on the stands on July 6, subscribe here to receive over the next week. Inside, Riverview House by Architect David Boyle responds to the surrounding landscape by way of a series of internal and external rooms with carefully conceived views. Olaver Architecture have honoured the ‘box on the back’ replacing a lean-to with a cost effective, stylish and sustainable alternative. Nest Architects have turned a dark and cold cottage into a warm, sweet home with a series of adaptable spaces for a young family, and in WA, architect Paul Wakelam has created a sophisticated bush shack with a rustic mix of materials. We investigate smart home devices, where technology meets sustainability. Bush Projects worked with Austin Maynard Architects to create a cleverly layered native and indigenous garden for a multi-generational home, and in another collaboration Jerry Wolveridge teamed up with Landscape Architect, Tim Nicholas, embracing harsh conditions to create a cohesive garden of diversity and depth. We visit Naoshima, Japan’s ‘art island’, plus profile a creative couple from Alice Springs and the best of local design.
