Issue 103

Issue 103 comes out May 5th. Order on its own or as part of a subscription.

In this issue, we profile London based not-for-profit design and research organisation Material Cultures, a group of new wave architects who are looking at the synergy between architecture and agriculture and how we can shift the norms, values and materials of construction culture.

green magazine issue 103 - profileOur feature article in this issue looks at prefabricated housing, with a collection of multi-storey and even multi-residential examples across Australia and New Zealand. While some are still simple, increasingly the forms – and materials – of prefab are becoming more complex.

Then, our first architecture feature; identifying rare Tasmanian Modernism, a client with an eye for detail gathers like minds to retain and extend a faded beauty. Architecture by Studio Ilk Architecture and Interiors.

Next up; a deft renovation uses a few key moves to honour an inner-city terrace, bringing functionality and flow to a small home that suits a creative family of five to a tee. Architecture by Molecule Studio.

For our third architecture feature; a family project a decade in the making turns local housing conventions on their head, with an indoor-outdoor delight of vaulted pavilions and a 40-metre-long spine perfect for play. Architecture by Jake Taylor Architecture.

And for our last architecture feature; in Canberra’s extremes of weather, it takes deep thoughts and ideas to create a year-round cocoon. Architecture by Ben Walker Architects.

Our first landscape feature; the reinvention of a concrete schoolyard into a soft, accommodating and inviting space serves as a hallmark of collaboration with young people. Featuring SBLA Studio.

And our second landscape feature; soil, plant positioning and a little regular maintenance will get you most of the way. And beautiful hard landscaping will do the rest. Landscape design by McNuttndorff Landscape Design.

In our Not Wasted feature; the experience of swimming in a stunning new ocean pool begins and ends in these equally beautiful changerooms. Project by Pac Studio and Eke Panuku.

And finally for our travel feature we enjoy an extended Bundanon stay revolving around the exhibition bagan bariwariganyan: echoes of country, where the legacy of Arthur Boyd resonates throughout.
