Award winning design
AWARD: Best Use of Windows and Doors – Commercial New Construction over $5M – Australian Windows Association AWA – Design Awards 2014 – Highly Commended
Paarhammer windows have helped the Nishi Complex achieve an 8 star NaTHERS rating. The mixed use development of the 15 storey NewActon Nishi Complex in Canberra is now completed. The hotel provides beautiful accommodation and event and conference facilities. The apartments offer sophisticated sustainable living.
Nishi represents a significant advance in environmental sustainable design. Every aspect of Nishi’s originally Japanese-inspired design has been considered so that tenants can benefit from its innovative solar heat retention principles.
Nishi delivers an average 8 star NaTHERS rating as well as providing the highest rated appliances, fixtures and fittings. These standout design features make it Canberra’s most sustainable mixed-use building complex. Designed by world-noted architects, Suppose Design Office (Tokyo) and Fender Katsalidis Architects (Melbourne) in conjunction with engineering consultant group, ARUP (London).
Dual aspect design in the apartment allows for natural ventilation through openable windows and doors. All windows have 2 opening tilt positions for regular as well as increased ventilation. Paarhammer made almost 200 windows, fixed glazing and glazed doors for the project. The timber used was FSC® certified Manilkara Bidentata (Pacific Jarrah) which was not treated and will therefore age to a natural grey colour. High performance glazing reduces heat loss by 70% and improves thermal comfort while maximising daylight transmission.
NewActon Nishi was conceived as a total response to the global groundswell for sustainable environmental change. Every dimension of the Nishi apartments applies a more considered design that embraces sustainability as a means of changing the way we live and reducing our collective impact on the planet. The design of Nishi in Canberra’s dynamic NewActon reflects a totally reconsidered, more connected approach to contemporary living.
