Limewashing over Interior Raw Render
The HUTT 01 Passivhaus by Melbourne Design StudioÂ
Interior designer Felicity and Architect Marc Bernstein have created a wonderful award winning ‘eco friendly’ home in the heart of Coburg.
We had the opportunity to visit their impressive passivhaus recently! It was such a delight walking through the tiny rugged back lane in the Melbournes northern suburbs, to see this modern bold home stand tall amongst its beautiful tranquil garden.
Felicity & Marc’s aim was to build a contemporary sustainable home on a small footprint with keeping all the luxuries of today, and yet having the home carbon free which is an essential element of this design, with carefully using every part of the land.Â
The home was built with a holistic approach to the materials chosen and used, ensuring all is sustainable and work seamlessly together with the architecture and design.
Felicity has created a natural interior feel to her home with the use of  organic materials including natural limewash paint. Having a 100% non toxic and VOC free paint is something that was a must!Â
The colour inspiration was to have a mid neutral warm colour that works well together with the internal raw timber work. Bauwerk colours Chalk and Flannel Flower have been applied over the interior Rockcote rendered walls.Â
Bauwerk’s traditional cloud technique was adapted with our absorbent bristle brushes. This creates a beautiful organic flat feel to the home and has a subtle appearance of an old organic rendered wall.Â
By applying limewash over the raw rendered walls will keep the surface natural and breathable.
A big congratulations to Felicity and Marc on their Design!! We can not wait to see more ‘Passivhaus’ builds in the future!
