Entries open for 20th BDAV Building Design Awards
Building Designers Association of Victoria (BDAV) is calling on the state’s best building designers to celebrate a significant milestone for the industry and enter its 20th BDAV Building Design Awards.
The annual BDAV Building Design Awards, presented by Australia’s largest industry association representing design professionals, recognise and showcase creativity and excellence in building design in a wide range of categories including residential design, interior design, heritage conservation, energy efficient design and non-residential design including commercial, industrial, hospitality and public buildings.
New categories introduced this year include ‘Residential Design – Best Small Lot’ and ‘Best Unbuilt Design’, while the People’s Choice Award will once again give the public the chance to vote for their favourite project.
The major award – the Building Design of the Year – will also be selected as the most outstanding submission from the category award winners.
Entry submissions for the 20th BDAV Building Design Awards close on Friday 10 April 2015.
Award winners will be announced on 25 July 2015 and profiled in BDAV’s tenth Winning Design magazine, a popular annual publication enjoyed by Victorians looking to build or renovate.
BDAV President Alastair McDonald said the 20th anniversary of the Building Design Awards is an important milestone for the organisation and one which will hold a special significance for Victoria’s building design professionals.
“Two decades on from its launch, the BDAV Building Design Awards continues to formally recognise the best in building design,” Mr McDonald said.
“This year’s Awards is an ideal time to reflect on creativity and expertise in building design in the last 20 years and showcase new and emerging trends in building design for the future.
“Each year has seen an increase in the quality of entries and I have no doubt that the calibre of this year’s submissions will once again impress our judges.”
Entries are judged on the quality of the design process with a focus on design excellence, taking into account elements such as architectural form, neighbourhood or landscape context, environmental sustainability, cost-effectiveness and innovative use of materials and technology.
The Awards are open to all building designers who are Full Members of the BDAV who are Registered Building Practitioners or Registered Architects.
