Call for entries: Incinerator Art Award

The annual Incinerator Art Award and Exhibition: Art for Social Change is now open for entries.

A total non-acquisitive prize pool of $14,000 is on offer. The categories are $10,000 for Incinerator Art Award, $3,000 Vision for Social Change Award and the $1,000 People’s Choice Award.

Entries are open to all art forms and selected on artistic merit and works that demonstrate a belief in cultural and creative expression as a means to affect deep and lasting social change.

The award will be judged by Emma Crimmings, Director of Gertrude Contemporary; Linda Williams, Associate Professor of Art, Environment and Cultural Studies at RMIT; and Emily Sexton, Head of Programming at the Wheeler Centre.

The award and exhibition are inspired by the vision of architects, Walter Burley Griffin and his wife Marion Mahony, designers of the Incinerator Gallery. They believed that architecture and art could challenge many of society’s deepest assumptions, building upon the notion that artistic creation and expression sparks new ideas, promotes critical thinking, inspires individuals and elicits new actions.
