Small is a company that specialises in transportable homes.
Wanting to address the pressures of home ownership and minimise environmental impact, Nick and Aaron* created a 39-square-metre house for a couple perched along the Moyne River in regional Victoria.
This small home holds its own in a big way; operating completely off-grid with a water tank, solar system and compostable toilet. Materials were recycled and reused where possible, like local bluestone offcuts made into tiles and a staircase and landing fashioned from concrete slabs that once held up cow troughs.
“We believe this is the future of regional and suburban design; by shrinking the footprint you reduce the material needed, environmental impact and cost,” Nick explains.
