ArchiBlox pop-up in Federation Square
Designed and constructed within just 10 weeks, ArchiBlox’s House of Häagen-Dazs – a pop-up ice-cream shop installed in Melbourne’s Federation Square – has just under two weeks to go before it is relocated to The Rocks Overseas Passenger Terminal in Sydney.
Known for their innovative carbon positive houses, which saw them win the Sustainability Awards Single Dwelling (New) category last year, ArchiBlox creates smart sustainable designs and prefabricated modular homes for ‘longevity and healthy living’. They were also recently named the Worlds Third Most Innovative Architectural Business in the World’s Most Innovative Companies of 2016 by Fast Company.
The House of Häagen-Dazs is comprised of ‘detailed joinery with intricate paneling, custom booth seating and sophisticated window portals embodied with suspended planters and rope detailing creating an all-encompassing striking Scandinavian-look fit-out’.
The shop has been made from materials with sustainable properties including carbon neutral timber cladding on the exterior and plywood interiors (including the seating and the ceiling) with recycled blackbutt timber planter boxes.
‘Sustainability is a core value at Archiblox. Sustainability starts on the longevity of the materials, their life cycle and their credentials from a sustainable point of view’, said Archiblox director Bill McCorkell.
The result is a ‘sensory meeting space’ for your eyes and your mouth with an immersion into the bespoke design alongside ‘delicately crafted flavours’ – get in quick before it’s gone.
