Addwood: Perspectives on Printable Timber

As we move toward regenerative practices, the role of timber in manufacturing is evolving. AddWood: Perspectives on Printable Timber invites you to discover how the wood industry is transforming through material recycling and digital technology. Taking place at international design festival Designblok Prague 2024, this exhibition reimagines the ways in which timber is sourced, processed, and utilized, offering a glimpse into the possibilities of digital design.

The exhibition showcases last year’s Diploma Selection Winners Esmée Willemsen, Janek Beau, Friedrich Gerlach, and Julia Huhnholz collaborating with econitWood, a pioneering bio-digital material system that revolutionizes how wood waste is repurposed. By utilizing wood remnants from sawmills and timber harvesting, econitWood extends the life cycle of the material. Through the innovative use of 3D printing, even the smallest wood particles are transformed into intricate, on-demand designs.

Esmée Willemsen, Janek Beau, Friedrich Gerlach and Julia Huhnholz are offering four distinct perspectives on large-scale additive manufacturing with wood, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in contemporary design.

AddWood: Perspectives on Printable Timber offers a unique opportunity to explore how cutting-edge technologies and sustainable materials are reshaping the wood industry, providing inspiration for designers, architects, and manufacturers alike.
