Far Away
A sauna likely isn’t the first thing that one would picture afloat a lake in a small north-east Tasmanian town, but these two shed-like pavilions certainly look like they belong.
That’s the deft hand of Hobart’s Licht Architecture, who played with light and shadow to create a place for peaceful reflection.
The project is deliberately lo-fi; with no power to the site or artificial light and heating sourced by firewood. With just one concrete footing anchoring the floating pontoon, Floating Sauna Lake Derby gives new meaning to the oftquoted phrase “touch the earth lightly.”
