Fringe Furniture 2015
Melbourne Fringe Festival returns in 2015, once again presenting the spectacular Fringe Furniture exhibition. Registrations are now open and will close Friday June 26. The open-access program will again be presented at the Abbotsford Convent with artists and designers exploring this year’s theme, Between the Lines.
Registrations are open to all Australian designers at any stage of their careers to explore the meaning and messages in an object’s design, and how the materials, colours, angles and shapes of an object can influence the atmosphere of a space.
The program provides a platform and opportunity for experimentation for all designers. A broad range of ‘furnishing’ types are encouraged to be submitted, including furniture, lighting, home wares, wearable objects, decorative arts, permanent and ephemeral works.
Beyond physical practicality, artists are encourage to consider the ways that design evokes responses through the use of material, texture and context.
Fringe Furniture is a keynote event that has been a part of the festival for 30 years. It is an annual showcase that has carved a meaningful position in Melbourne’s design landscape, exploring innovation, creative thinking, environmental impact and living design.
The showcase supports and recognises Australian designer excellence and innovations. An awards program judged by a panel of industry experts will honour the winners with a prize package from the generosity of the industry and community.
The Fringe Furniture exhibition will open on 16 September and run until 4 October 2015 at Abbotsford Convent’s Sacred Heart Chapel and surrounds.
