Incinerator Art Award
The works from 39 Australian and International artists have been shortlisted for the annual Incinerator Art Award opening on 9 October, making it the largest exhibition in the Incinerator Art Award’s history.
The shortlisted artists’ works were chosen from a record number of applicants representing every state and territory in Australia as well as entries from Europe and Asia.
This year’s top prize of $10,000 will be judged by an influential panel including Emma Crimmings, Director of Gertrude Contemporary; Linda Williams, Associate Professor of Art, Environment and Cultural Studies at the RMIT School of Art; and Emily Sexton, Head of Programming at the Wheeler Centre.
The Incinerator Art Award presents a diverse selection of works including sculpture, video, photography and painting that confront, comment or shine a light on contemporary social and cultural issues including works from Ian Milliss, Ash Keating, Dominic Redfern and Ali Choudry.
The exhibition seeks to highlight the role that art can play in changing social attitudes and presents artists as agents for social change.
Art has the ability to engage with people both intellectually and emotionally, making it an excellent vehicle to explore the environmental, cultural and social issues we collectively face as a society.
The Incinerator Art Award is the gallery’s annual contemporary art prize, with works shortlisted on their artistic merit, reflections and response to environmental, cultural and social issues and their engagement with social change.
