Tasmanian talent at IN FORM

Tasmania is renowned for its woodcraft.  However, often Tasmanian wood products are  valued for their rare, or specialty timbers, rather than the merit of their design.

IN FORM is an exhibition developed to showcase the creative talents of Tasmanian designers through products made from Tasmanian Eucalyptus.  Whilst many consumers see Tasmanian Eucalyptus as a timber that should be hidden within the walls of a house, few realise that its availability, beauty, and resilience actually make it an ideal material for fine-furniture applications.  Tasmanian Eucalyptus, if mindfully harvested, can also be a sustainable resource.

This exhibition aims to not only emphasise the importance of good design(ers) over the novelty of rare materials, but also to help promote and develop the perceived value of Tasmanian Eucalyptus.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue and essay discussing the history and potential trajectory of the Tasmanian furniture industry in relation to relevant global precedents and the availability of manufacturing materials.

Featuring 20 Designers, In Form will open on Friday November 21, at 5.30pm. The exhibition will run from November 22 to December 2 from 10am 6pm daily, at the Long Gallery, Salamanca Place, Hobart.
