What’s on at the DENFAIR Design Loop

The DENFAIR Design Loop runs during Melbourne Design Week from 15 – 25 March. Seventeen design showrooms and studios have opened their doors to the public, presenting curated installations based on the theme ‘Celebration of Material’. We checked out a couple of stops along the route.

Volker Haug

Reactions presents a collection of salvaged neon signage that examines the chemical and material interactions that create artificial light. The glowing rows of lighting are part alchemy, part artwork, and all scientific wonder; each piece has been remade in different combinations of noble gases, glass, phosphor and electricity.

2-12 St Phillip Street, Brunswick East

Tait

With the simple dictum of Cut, Fold, Join, Seam Tait presents the Seam collection, designed by Adam Cornish. The range was conceived through a simple series of cuts, folds and joins to emulate the process of tailoring a garment. This philosophy is strikingly articulated by a sheet of aluminium with chairs cut out of it suspended in the front window.

209-211 Smith Street, Fitzroy

Jardan

Stripped Back quite literally reveals the materials, tools and expertise that goes into making a piece of furniture. Jardan have laid out a Lewis Sofa peeled back layer by layer – highlighting their dedicated pursuit of sustainability in all stages of production.

522 Church Street, Richmond

Meizai

Colombian/German brand Ames presents a selection of handcraft products using unique materials such as black terracotta. The Sala collection was designed by Sebastian Herkner and was produced in-situ using traditional craft techniques by manufacturers in regions across Colombia.
