ExLaB to host a series of two exhibitions

ExLaB will be hosting a series of two exhibitions, each over a weekend at the end of February 2020, showing the experimental furniture pieces created by graduate studentsĀ at the Melbourne School of Design, University of Melbourne. Each student is challenged to design a piece of furniture using an experimental design process that is driven be material qualities and processes of making. This exhaustive process results in innovative furniture that pushes the boundaries of beauty, function, sustainability and innovation.

The first show, Fri Feb 21 ā€“ Sun Feb 23, 10am ā€“ 6pm,Ā Experimental Furniture Futures 19, will exhibit projects prototypes and experiments produced using a range of unusual materials and processes, such as sego pearls, recycled polystyrene, denim lint and bioplastic. Opening event Fri 21 6:00 ā€“ 8:00pm.

The second show, Fri Feb 28 ā€“ Sun Mar 1, 10am ā€“ 6pm,Ā Experimental Timber Furniture 19, will exhibit projects, prototypes and experiments produced solely using one material: timber. Proposing an answer to the question ā€œis the worldā€™s most common building material still ripe for innovation?ā€ Opening event Fri 28 6:00 ā€“ 8:00pm.

Both exhibitions will be located at ALPHA60 Chapter House, Level 2, 195 Flinders Lane, Melbourne.
