Victorian Architecture Award Winners

The State’s Best New Architecture

Victoria’s most innovative new architecture has been revealed at the Australian Institute of Architects’ 2026 Victorian Architecture Awards. The 64 winners and commendations (detailed on the following pages of this media release) span residential, community and commercial projects, representing the very pinnacle of design from the state’s most venerated architects.

Australian Institute of Architects 2026 Victorian Architecture Awards Jury Chair, Simon Knott, explained the many commonalities between this year’s winners.

“The winners in this year’s Victorian Architecture Awards feature beloved landmarks that have transcended their function as a piece of infrastructure. We saw multiple community projects that are delightful sites of human congregation where community centric design has been at the forefront – taking prosaic pieces of existing architecture and making them a place of recreation. Sites with a grim history were also utterly transformed with deft hands and given new life as public hubs with a multitude of amenities,” said Knott.

“We also saw many examples of density done well, muti-residential projects that act as intriguing templates for how we can increase housing supply in inner city areas.”

“The residential winners were dominated by projects honouring a site’s history, modernising heritage homes for contemporary use with precise edits, rather than a knockdown rebuild – a compelling and sustainable approach to home design.”

The Australian Institute of Architects is the country’s peak body for architecture, and the Victorian Architecture Awards are the state’s premier design awards program.
