Junction Arts Festival 2019

Junction Arts Festival has announced a delicious drop of new events including guest chefs, DJs, architecture tours, a collaboration with MOFO Sessions, artist talks plus a new free music program.

Launceston’s art festival Junction returns next month, with a collision of art, performance and music over four days and nights in the Festival Hub at Prince’s Square. Experience art you can’t see anywhere else in the world plus unmissable performances, events, food and drinks.

Creative Director, Greg Clarke said: “We are so excited to share with everyone the exciting details of Club Barbazet, Open House and RONE and announce our huge free music line-up in Prince’s Square – it’s going to be a massive 4 day celebration and everyone’s invited.”

Feast on delicious food at Junction’s Crossfire Kitchen , a collaboration with Timbre’s Matt Adams plus top Tasmanian chefs Massimo Mele (Grain of Silos), Johnny McCoy (Pachinko), Danielle Lefrancois (Hubert & Dan) and Peter Twitchett (Geronimo Aperitivo Bar & Restaurant) will join Crossfire Kitchen fuelling the Festival from Thursday night to Sunday afternoon.

Sticky beaks rejoice: there are 38 buildings (and 20 tours) to explore as part of Open House Launceston, presented by Open House Hobart and The Australian Institute of Architects. There are tours and in-conversation events with architects at sites across the city.

The Festival’s nightclub, Club Barbezat reveals a big lineup of Tasmanian performers featuring Mood Organ, SCRAPS, Curlicue, Frengo, FLAC, DJ Puffy Pank, Juniper, Art + DJ YUKI. Club Barbezat takes over a new space, offering an adults-only playground of cocktails, art, experimental performance, light and dance.

Junction will also present two special events in collaboration with MOFO Sessions featuring durational performances by the Australian Art Orchestra’s Dan Sheehan (organ) at City Baptist Church + Martin Ng (turntable and electronics) in Milton Hall on Saturday 7 September.

Street artist RONE joins Junction for a series of virtual reality experiences and artist talks, celebrating his recent Empire exhibition. Artist talks with Rone will take place at the Roy Spence Theatre, University of Tasmania School of Architecture on Friday 6th of September 5-6PM + Saturday 7th of September 3PM-4PM with VR experiences at 68 – 70 St John Street.

A new free music program in Prince’s Square includes homegrown talent including Just Flare, Isabel, Joe Kallman, Cordis Green, Fiontan Cassidy, Mick Attard, Saree Salter, Eve Gowen, Cam Illingworth, Monique How, Fiddle STIX, Den., Frankie Andrew (ISLA KA), Stephanie MacKean, Nick Bennett, Raccoon Dog, Josh Rigby, Grace Chia, Je Bahl, Elliot Courtnage, Emily Lawton, Cotton Pony, Pat Broxton, Thomas Fowkes and Gabriele Dagrezio.
