Experience Waste to Wonder with Eco Outdoor at Melbourne Design Week 2026

During Melbourne Design Week (15–23 May), Eco Outdoor invites visitors to experience Waste to Wonder, an exhibition that brings circular design to life by thinking creatively about how building materials can be given architectural form and be used as furniture or sculpture. Three prominent designers have been commissioned to transform sustainable, surplus building materials into enduring objects, including tables and sculptural pieces made from stone bricks, glass blocks and glazed lava tiles. The exhibition supports the brand’s Crafted with Wonder ethos that circular thinking can be beautiful, functional and scalable.

French design studio MVE Collection, known for transforming construction-site waste into high-end furniture, will make its first appearance in Australia with three tables designed in collaboration with Eco Outdoor. Crafted from solid stone construction bricks, the pieces celebrate the beauty, performance and sustainability of natural stone. Founded in 2023 by architect Vincent Eschalier and designer Mattéo Lecuru, MVE Collection debuted to industry acclaim at Paris Design Week in 2025.

Australian industrial designer Tom Fereday will present a limited-edition series of sculptural tables using Mano Glass Blocks made from up to 50% recycled glass. Each block is hand-cast, resulting in raw, organically textured surfaces that are uniquely individual. Fereday is known for his refined, material-led practice with a signature focus on honesty, restraint and craft.

Australian furniture designer Matt Lorrain reimagines Eco Outdoor’s glazed lava tiles, crafted from factory offcuts into bold, sculptural furniture pieces. Each work celebrates the durability and richly textured character of lava stone, defined by trapped air bubbles, shimmering metallic fragments and dark, mineral-speckled surfaces.

A hands-on, design-forward showcase, Waste to Wonder brings sustainability to life with displays featuring visual explainers of the Waste to Wonder journey, alongside a dedicated workshop where visitors can engage directly with the materials to assemble their own sculptures. The experience invites the public to appreciate natural stone and recycled glass as precious materials, valued for their texture, variation and raw imperfection.

Designed to spark conversation, Waste to Wonder encourages visitors to reconsider what we keep, discard or reuse, and how circular thinking can shape enduring objects.
