MW Wines, a sculpted ode to winemaking
A sculpted ceiling crafted from Elton Group’s Eveneer WoodWall sits at the centre of MW Wines’ tasting room, forming the project’s defining architectural gesture. Wrapped in natural Spotted Gum veneer, the ceiling arcs across the space in a continuous sweep, echoing the curvature of oak barrels and the enveloping ambience of traditional wine cellars. This warm, tactile surface shapes the room’s character, drawing visitors inward and heightening the sensory nature of the tasting experience.
Used seamlessly from wall to ceiling, Eveneer WoodWall transforms the perception of scale, creating a cocoon-like enclosure suited to both intimate tastings and larger gatherings. Its fine grain enhances acoustic comfort while delivering the refined, premium finish expected of a venue dedicated to rare and aged wines.
Beyond its striking visual impact, the WoodWall ceiling contributes to the narrative of the space. Its tactility and materiality offer a considered nod to the timber vessels long integral to winemaking, linking contemporary hospitality with longstanding craft traditions. This story is reinforced through the broader fit-out, where Maher Design pairs bespoke joinery with repurposed wine box timbers and a palette of natural materials to create an interior that feels both authentic and distinctly modern.
Sustainability is embedded in the material choice. Eveneer WoodWall is manufactured using a patented slicing process that increases veneer yield by approximately 300%, meaning the same volume of veneer that would traditionally require three trees can now be produced from just one. As WoodWall uses less than five per cent of the timber consumed in conventional timber-veneered panelling, the environmental footprint of the installation is significantly reduced without compromising visual or functional performance.
Through this thoughtful approach, MW Wines becomes a crafted environment where sustainable timber veneer elevates both the architecture and the experience it holds.
