Sydney Park Water Re-Use Project wins additional honours at Good Design Awards
The Sydney Park Water Re-Use Project has received two additional honours: the Good Design Award Best in Class in the Architectural Design and Urban Design category and the 202020 Vision Green Design Award. The project recently won the Civic Trust Award and The Special Award for Sustainability at Europe’s longest running awards program for the built environment, the 59th Civic Trust Awards.
In partnership with the City of Sydney, landscape architects Turf Design Studio and Environmental Partnership led a multidisciplinary team of water engineering, public art, ecology, lighting, and other specialists on this $11 million landmark project.
The winners of Australia’s Good Design Awards were announced at the Sydney Opera House last night, as part of the 60th Annual Good Design Awards Ceremony.
The annual Good Design Awards celebrate the best new products and services on the market, excellence in architectural design, digital and communication design and reward emerging areas of design including business model innovation, social impact and design entrepreneurship.
The Good Design Award Best in Class in the Architectural Design category is a recognition of outstanding design and innovation. The 202020 Vision Green Design Award recognises excellence in green urban and space design and was established by Good Design Australia and 202020 Vision to help raise awareness and promote excellence in green design.
“An inspiring project that lifts the spirits and shows the way forward environmentally. This project exemplifies the true integration of public art, engineering, water treatment, public wayfinding and recreation. This treasured green open space represents a significant asset to the south Sydney community at a time when green space is under threat from a revival of major road infrastructure in established communities.” – Good Design Awards jury.
The winners were presented with the new sustainably-designed Good Design Award trophy in Sydney. Special guest, Jan Utzon (son of Jorn Utzon, who designed the Sydney Opera House) presented the Good Design Award of the Year on stage and congratulated all of the 2018 winners.
Winners of the Good Design Awards will be showcased to the general public during Vivid Sydney, the world’s biggest festival of light, music and ideas in Sydney from 25-27 May 2018 at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay.
