Think Brick Awards adds new award category
The Think Brick Awards, Australia’s richest design awards, have opened for 2018 with a new award category with $10,000 cash prize for all ‘new entrants’.
Now in its 12th year, the awards celebrate the contemporary and innovative use of clay bricks, concrete masonry and roof tiles in Australian architecture.
Think Brick Australia CEO, Elizabeth McIntyre said, “For any architect [who] hasn’t entered a Think Brick Australia award, now is the time to do so. In 2018 we are offering a special incentive. As an architect, if this is their first time entering the awards, they will be entered into our special new entrant category. The best of our first-time entrants across all categories will also be awarded with $10,000 prize money.”
“Every year we have seen an increased number of entries, and we particularly want to encourage architects [who] have never entered but are pushing the design boundaries in their use of clay bricks, concrete masonry and roof tiles.”
“The Think Brick Awards celebrates innovation and craftsmanship in masonry, recognising the important contributions that architects, builders, bricklayers and manufacturers make to the process of creating outstanding residential and commercial projects,” added Mrs McIntyre.
2018 Think Brick Award categories include:
Horbury Hunt Commercial Award: includes built projects that exemplify outstanding craftsmanship and innovation through the use of clay face bricks and pavers, with a cash prize of $10,000.
Horbury Hunt Residential Award: includes residential built projects that exemplify outstanding craftsmanship and innovation through the use of clay face bricks and pavers, with a cash prize of $10,000.
Kevin Borland Masonry Award: recognises projects that highlight the design potential of concrete masonry in commercial and residential built architecture, with a cash prize of $10,000.
Bruce Mackenzie Landscape Award: highlights the unlimited possibilities of the humble paver, with a cash prize of $10,000.
Robin Dods Terracotta Roof Award: showcases the sustainability benefits, versatility and design possibilities of terracotta roof tiles, with a cash prize of $10,000.
New Entrants Award: for those architects who have never entered in the awards before, with a cash prize of $10,000.
Mrs McIntyre added, “Last year’s awards were outstanding with real trends emerging such as an increase in the use of brick in interiors, particularly as a way to unify indoor and outdoor spaces.”
“We are looking forward to seeing outstanding submissions that will continue push the envelope in how the world’s most trusted building materials are used in the built environment,” said Mrs McIntyre.
The deadline for award entries is 11 May 2018 with winners announced at a gala dinner on 23 August 2018. Each entrant will receive two complimentary tickets to the awards dinner.
