Warren and Mahoney wins Best in Category award at 2018 World Architecture Festival

Warren and Mahoney, in partnership with Woods Bagot, Boffa Miskell and LabWorks, has been recognised at the annual World Architecture Festival with the Best in Category Award for Education – Future Project.

Held in Amsterdam this year, the WAF festival is dedicated to celebrating, sharing and inspiring outstanding architecture and boasts the only global awards program where architects present projects to a live panel of internationally renowned judges and delegates. A record 536 projects from 81 countries were shortlisted this year, making 2018 the biggest year in the awards’ history.

Warren and Mahoney Managing Director John Coop said the firm’s recognition in this year’s awards demonstrates its commitment to reflecting an understanding of identity, place and community in the design process.

“This project is emblematic of Warren and Mahoney’s approach to our work with clients and their stakeholders. Our process is grounded in driving conversation before design, sharing our ideas with authentic generosity and ultimately creating spaces that connect people. We’re honoured to see this approach receiving international recognition among this year’s competitive and highly qualified field.”

The AgResearch Joint Facility at Lincoln University, Christchurch in association with Woods Bagot, Boffa Miskell and LabWorks, was recognised for its ability to connect potential partners from different organisations in shared research spaces, and for its use of traditional Māori wayfinding to guide pathways between the facility and surrounding campus. Its design was informed by consultation with local Iwi and inspired by the lush and fertile agricultural land of New Zealand’s surrounding countryside.

Principal Architect Jonathan Coote said, “The Lincoln University and AgResearch Joint Facility offers a progressive model for industry collaboration. We are thrilled to see our design, informed by the mission to break the barriers to sharing research among scientists and academics, recognised on an international stage.”

Warren and Mahoney was also shortlisted for a second award in the Education – Future Project category, and for two awards in the Transport – Completed Projects category.
