New Shelter Original series Architecture on the Edge

SHELTER, the Australian-based global streaming service dedicated to home, design and architecture, is thrilled to announce the April 5 world-wide premiere of new Shelter Original series Architecture on the Edge, a 6 x 15 minute series revealing six unique buildings that showcase the modern architecture movement in Chile, produced by Kliwadenko Novas Productions.

Instead of disappearing into the landscape, the works of Chilean architecture are sharply man-made, rough, cosmic and oceanic. These breathtaking designs are built on salt blankets in the desert, on the edge of oceans, cradled amongst mountains, while grasping an earthquake prone land.

Through truly stunning photography, Architecture on the Edge features some of the country’s most engaging and celebrated buildings, and explores how Chilean architecture revels in pushing design to the very edge. The series includes Pritzker prize-winning architecture and architects from Chile.

With principal photography having now wrapped in Chile, South America, Architecture on the Edge will premiere exclusively on Shelter: with episode 1 available to stream from April 5, 2021, and a new episode released weekly.

Filmmakers Katerina Kliwadenko & Mario Novas are best known for their 2017 feature documentary Do More with Less, about the South and Central American avant garde pro-bono architecture movement to address the housing crisis and improve the lives of millions of South American people. Do More with Less was selected for festivals all over the world, and is available to stream on Shelter.

Groundbreaking designs such as Desert Interpretation Center by Emilio Marín & Juan Carlos López; Río Plata Shelter by Elton Léniz Arquitectos & Francisco Cruz and Klotz House by Mathias Klotz are just some of the incredible buildings to be featured Architecture on the Edge.

“The portrayed buildings are not just inserted in the landscape but they need to deal with its conditions. Surrounded by impressive views, often isolated, they declare to the world their own way of understanding architecture,” says Architecture on the Edge Producer Mario Novas.

“The modern architecture movement in Chile is cutting edge and extremely inspiring. We are excited to have commissioned this international series, and look forward to bringing it to audiences globally on Shelter,” says Executive Producer and Shelter creator Dustin Clare.

Architecture on the Edge delves into the diverse & challenging environments of the West Coast of South America, and is the second Shelter Original commission, following in the footsteps of the critically acclaimed Inspired Architecture.
