New minimum intervention organic wine company launched

It’s a simple concept — an ode to nature — for people who think, feel and wonder. From a 125-acre organic vineyard on the banks of the Goulburn River comes a new wine label: Minimum, launching Monday 2 September.

Founded by Matt and Lentil Purbrick (of Grown and Gathered) in partnership with Matt’s father — Tahbilk head winemaker Alister Purbrick — Minimum is focused on organic, minimum intervention wines, natural growing principles and true sustainability from vineyard to (and inclusive of) the bottle.

Its initial offering will include a 2018 Sangiovese Syrah, a 2018 Chardonnay, and a 2019 Sangiovese Rosato.

“In preparation for launching Minimum we have spent the past two years converting a 125-acre vineyard on the Goulburn River to organic, with full certification due in time for vintage 2020, and we have employed minimum intervention practices at every stage of the winemaking process,” says Matt Purbrick.

“Minimum is not just about good wine, it’s about good practice. And it’s about enjoying the good life, but not at the expense of the environment.”

By planting trees, Minimum’s wine range actually sequesters (or captures) more carbon than it produces.

Each bottle is also recyclable, including the label, while every cork is compostable and its boxes are made from 100 per cent recycled materials.

Made with organic, naturally-farmed grapes, both wild and cultivated biodynamic yeasts, and low sulphur additions, Minimum’s launch varietals are elegant, light, fruit-forward, celebratory wines, made for drinking now.

For the Purbrick family, a love of great wine has flowed in their blood and through their land for five generations, ever since Tahbilk Wines was taken on by Matt’s great great grandfather, Reginald Purbrick, in 1925.

“After decades of working and living on the land we’re moving into a new phase of winemaking, and of living: actively searching for the minimum,” adds Matt Purbrick.

“With those changes comes a new company, one that sits alongside Tahbilk like an irreverent and changemaking sibling.”

Minimum Wines are available to purchase as a three pack gift box, half dozen or dozen box (in single or mixed varietals) online at minimumwines.com. Single bottles will be available for sale from all good wine retailers.
