Denfair’s Speaker Space program

The Speaker Space program has now been unveiled for Denfair’s 2017 Third Edition. The diverse program for Australia’s pre-eminent contemporary design event includes an array of design thought-leaders from Australia and abroad. Design editor Nicky Lobo has curated the program for the inaugural talks series, exploring Australian design futures and the impact of globalisation, technological advancement and cultural shifts.     

In the PechaKucha-powered Earth event, panellists will showcase the significance of sustainable design, exploring design advancements while looking towards future possibilities. The line-up includes Paul Charlwood of Charlwood Design, industrial designer Tom Fereday, Chris Haddad of Archier, Sarah K of Supercyclers and environmental artist Debbie Symons.

Highly-lauded industrial designer Chris Connell will present a rare insight into his creative process with Masterclass: The Thinking Hand. Exploring the value of the humble pencil and paper, Chris Connell will discuss the role of hand sketching in a in a post-CAD world. Meanwhile, Virginia Fay of Patternsnap, Ruder Novak-Mikulic of Regular Company and Roger Sexton of Xicato will discuss the impact of technological advancement on the way we create and experience design, presenting Technology: The Terminator.

Finally, Bang & Olufsen’s Øivind Slaato will present the unmissable Q&A on Inspiration, offering a glimpse into his concept ideation process, and unpacking the ways in which designers can look outside their disciplines to music, art and nature as sources of inspiration.

Denfair 2017 runs from June 8 to 10, at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, with the Speaker Space program running across all three days. Registration for design professionals is now open, while tickets to Denfair’s public day are on sale now. Click here to discover the full program.
