Australian Furniture Design Award: Finalists
JamFactory and Stylecraft are thrilled to announce six outstanding finalists have been selected for the inaugural Australian Furniture Design Award.
The judges reviewed 150 entries from all around Australia, including some from eligible Australian designers in Europe and the UK – all hoping to win the $20,000 cash prize and a residency at JamFactory in Adelaide to develop a piece for commercial production and national distribution through Stylecraft.
The finalists for AFDA 2015 are:
– Penelope Forlano, WA
– Gavin Harris, NSW
– Seaton McKeon, NSW
– Elliat Rich, NT
– Charles Wilson, NSW
– Sam Wright, WA
The 2015 winner will be announced publicly on 3 July. Prototypes by the six finalists will be displayed at Stylecraft’s Adelaide showroom through July and will then tour to other Stylecraft showrooms nationally.
A further prestigious element to the prize will see the award winner’s prototype acquired by the Art Gallery of South Australia, adding to its impressive collection that includes pieces by designers such as Grant Featherston, Marc Newson and Frank Gehry.
The AFDA 2015 judges are Fenella Kernebone, Journalist and ABC Presenter; Jon Goulder, Creative Director of the Furniture Design Studio at JamFactory; Tony Russell, Brand Director at Stylecraft; Nick Mitzevitch, Director of the Art Gallery of South Australia; and Rosina Di Maria, Principal at Woods Bagot in Adelaide.
They were all greatly encouraged by the quality and diversity of entries in the first year of this important new award. The judges will interview the six finalists and examine the physical prototypes of each finalist’s entry before selecting the 2015 winner.
