Country Road & Tait Launch Saltbush: Australian Made Outdoor Furniture Range

Country Road has announced the launch of an outdoor furniture range in collaboration with renowned Australian furniture design and manufacturing company, Tait. Designed and manufactured in Melbourne, the limited-edition ‘Saltbush’ range will be available in select Country Road stores and online from 3 December 2024.

Established in 1992 by husband-and-wife duo Gordon and Susan Tait, Tait has been a pioneer in producing high-quality outdoor furniture that reflects Australia’s love of outdoor living. Their award-winning pieces are crafted to withstand the harsh Australian environment, with a strong emphasis on material quality and durability. Combining Gordon’s background as a sheet metal craftsman and Susan’s expertise in textile design, Tait’s products marry functionality with artistic craftsmanship.

The Saltbush range marks a year-long collaboration between Tait and Country Road’s Homewares design team. Drawing inspiration from the 1970s—when Country Road was founded—the collection offers a modern interpretation of nostalgic Australian design, with a nod to the Australian poolside experience. The name references the hardy Saltbush plant, found across Australia’s beaches and inland bush.

Tait’s commitment to local manufacturing has been central to their ethos for over 30 years. Based in Melbourne, their approach combines traditional handmade techniques with modern automation, producing durable, timeless pieces. The solar-assisted factory employs 25 craftspeople skilled in welding, grinding, sanding, and finishing.

“To celebrate our 50 years, we wanted to bring two iconic Australian design-led brands together and collaborate on the perfect poolside setting for the Australian lifestyle. When you think of contemporary Australian outdoor furniture, you think of Tait,” said Toby Nowland, Country Road Homewares Designer.

The range incorporates porcelain and 100% recycled boucle, tying it back to Country Road’s broader homeware collection. It includes:

Each piece is manually assembled and hand-checked in Melbourne. Tait’s commitment to sustainability extends to using recyclable materials, offering a 5-year structural warranty, and providing refurbishment services to extend the life of their products.

“We are delighted to be part of Country Road’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Like Country Road, Tait has a proud history of designing for the Australian lifestyle. With a shared commitment to sustainability and longevity, it has been wonderful to collaborate on this Saltbush collection,” said Susan Tait, Creative Director and co-founder of Tait.
