SJB wins UDIA National Award

SJB has won the prestigious Urban Development Institute of Australia’s (UDIA) National Award for Excellence for Cantala in the medium-density development category.

The Urban Development Institute of Australia’s National Awards for Excellence celebrates Australia’s contemporary knowledge, skills and innovation in the urban development industry. The awards recognise outstanding achievements of high quality developments.

This is Cantala’s third award, taking out the UDIA Victorian Chapter award as well the Melbourne Design Awards in 2017. Comprising 25 multi-storey townhouses, a low-rise block of 44 apartments, basement car parking and the retention of a public landscaped thoroughfare through the site, Cantala marries the best of contemporary place-making and the aesthetics of leafy Melbourne.

“Cantala is a great win for SJB. Projects like this continue to challenge us as designers, creating engaging built environments so that the cities and places we inhabit can continue to evolve, yet remain relevant and beautiful,” says SJB Director Tristan Wong.

ICON Senior Development Manager Kyle Reeve, noted how proud the team were of winning the national UDIA award for Cantala. “The collaboration with SJB and the greater design team has been imperative to showcase what is possible with medium-density development,” Kyle said. The project’s success has been driven by a strong directive and partnership between Icon Developments and SJB.

“Cantala represents a new way of addressing urban living and we are thrilled to see our vision recognised by such a prestigious award. We thank the UDIA, the jury and our clients for their support and appreciation,” says SJB Director Michael Bialek.
