Stonnington’s award-winning sustainability and gardening festival

Spring Into Gardening returns this year to Prahran’s lush Victoria Gardens on Sunday 9 October, drawing in an average of 5,000 gardening and sustainability enthusiasts of all ages.

Costa Georgiadis from ABC’s Gardening Australia will host this year’s one-day festival, which features an exciting program of free expert talks, practical demonstrations, workshops, market stalls and fun activities for kids so you can start planting and preparing your garden for summer.

Gardeners at all levels can get back to basics at ‘Composting with Costa’ and bring questions for his interactive Q&A session, then learn how to keep backyard bees with Backyard Honey, followed by a preserves workshop with My Green Garden.

For those with limited outdoor spaces, Small Space Garden Design will teach you everything you need to know about gardening in small spaces, while Fytogreen will run demonstrations on planting ecologically sustainable green walls and roof gardens.

The Sage Garden will be running a special gardening workshop just for kids and absolute beginners, where the little green thumbs can take away their own planted seed and instructions to help children and families grow their own food.

Grab the kids and join Natasha Grogan of The Sage Garden who will show you how to set up a worm farm with one lucky family taking home a prize! Free hands-on activities will keep your kids happy and entertained throughout the day including terrarium workshops by Candy Sparkles + See Make Play, and sustainable craft with Trash Puppets and Emma Grace.

There are even workshops for the adults where you can create your own artful and colourful Macramé plant hanger. And watch out for the roving Snuff Puppet Performance, Mirabelle the snail – she may be slow and quiet, but she’s hungry.

.Get planting straight away, with over 30 market stalls offering a diverse range of specialist products, including Cool Cactus, Town & Country Gardens and Worm Lovers as well as local community gardens, clubs and services.
