MPavilion announces the return of MRelay and M*Sync

MPavilion has announced the return of its popular annual signature events MRelay, a day-long design talk-fest on Saturday 4 February 2017 from 9am to 9pm and M*Sync, an event to celebrate a heartbeat synching art installation that brings together community connectedness and love with live music, poetry and dance to be held on Saturday 11 February 2017 from 5pm to 9pm.

M*Sync will be accompanied by a seven-day installation from Wednesday 8 to Tuesday 14 February 2017 which invites the public to sync their heartbeats with others in a love song, culminating on Valentine’s Day.

Forming one of the key events of MPavilion’s 2016-17 program, MRelay is an epic 12 hour-long design talk-fest which explores what keeps a city ticking and dissects the urban fabric that binds it all together.

Curated by MPavilion’s Jennifer Zielinska, the marathon day of conversation will see 32 leading Australian and International philosophers, designers, mavericks, activists, provocateurs and architects share insights and ideas around the four themes of Cultivate, Play, Pause and Narrate.

Discussing videogaming to urban farming, civic responsibility to meditation, speakers include Australian artist Christian Thompson, Curator of Art and Design for Hong Kong’s M+ Aric Chen, actor Rachel Griffiths and Aboriginal activist and writer Nayuka Gorrie, with the full line up to be revealed in January 2017.

M*Sync, MPavilion’s celebration of collective consciousness, returns in 2017 with a focus on love as a contemporary ritual featuring poetry, dance and live music. This event is a unique experimental art happening, capturing heartbeats and turning them into a love song through a synching art installation.

This season, M*Sync will be accompanied by a seven-day installation of Hypnapod – suspended cardiophonic snooze pods by the Unconscious Collective from 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 4pm daily from Wednesday 8 February, culminating on Valentines Day, Tuesday 14 February to close out the celebration of hearts in sync.

Curated by HTRK’s Jonnine Standish, MPavilion’s Jessie French and featuring experimental artistic collaboration Unconscious Collective’s Hypnapod installation and heart-beat syncing technology, M*Sync celebrates community connectedness under the bamboo roof of Bijoy Jain’s MPavilion 2016 in Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Gardens.

Celebrating design, architecture, collaboration, and art in public spaces, MPavilion 2016 is home to a dynamic program of hundred of free events presented over four months from 5 October 2016 until 18 February 2017, including the popular MTalks, MMeets, MKids and MMusic.
