Dessert Studies with Lightly

Pierre Roelofs and Cindy-Lee Davies of Lightly are collaborating on the latest iteration of “Dessert Studies”, a series of inspired dining experiences in Melbourne, for three nights in July. The project is all about starting conversations, inspiring creativity and having a bit of fun.

For the past seven years, Roelofs has created a new dessert every three weeks by collaborating with creatives to interpret architecture, design and illustration into dessert.

Pierre’s first collaboration was with architect Andrew Maynard. His Tower House won a bunch of awards last year and it grabbed Pierre’s attention straight away. Tower Dessert made an appearance on June 9th, 16th, 23rd.

Now on July 7, 14 and 21 at Milkwood Café in East Brunswick, Davies and Roelofs will bring to life “Desert Dessert”, an interpretation of Lightly’s Desert Days rug collection.

The new Desert Days collection of flat weave wool rugs came about from Davies recent travels to the Thar Desert, India. Designs reference the stone forts contrast against the blue architecture throughout the desert landscape of Rajasthan.

Each rug is made by artisans in villages that Lightly now supports. Production took six months using custom hand dyed colours, reflecting the craftsmanship involved in each hand woven piece.
