Design and creativity inspires MPavilion’s 2016 program

MPavilion has unveiled the next wave of free cultural events to be presented in November and December 2016 under the handmade pavilion designed by acclaimed Indian architect Bijoy Jain of Studio Mumbai.

Inspired by the role of design, architecture and creativity in a vibrant city, MPavilion’s program is highlighted by talks, workshops, events and student presentations including the return of Monash University’s popular wearable architecture project Wearing the Private City, RMIT University’s Masters Graduates Fashion Show and the world premiere of the winning film from international fashion photographer Nick Knight’s SHOWStudio Fashion Film Award.

Talks by international guests include the UK’s Chris Sanderson, co-founder of The Future Laboratory, New York’s Julia Kaganskiy, Director of NEW INC and Bauhaus expert Dr Isabel Wünsche from Germany. With special performances given by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, gigs held throughout Melbourne Music Week and a Summer Solstice performance by Dominico de Clario.

Naomi Milgrom AO of Naomi Milgrom Foundation said, “Culture and our creative industries play an essential role in Melbourne’s identity, wellbeing and long-term cultural and economic growth. As a cultural laboratory, MPavilion’s program of events, performance, talks and happenings throughout November and December invites people of all ages to experience the importance of creativity in enhancing our city’s urban development and diversity.”

Forming part of more than hundreds of free events presented at MPavilion 2016 from 5 October 2016 to 18 February 2017, the November and December 2016 program highlights include:
