2017 Australian Urban Design Awards announced

From a shortlist of thirty-three entries, three projects were awarded and another nine commended in the 2017 Australian Urban Design Awards, the nation’s premier awards for excellence and innovation in urban design. The awards were presented at the State Library of Queensland, Brisbane, on 25 October 2017.

The Australian Urban Design Awards recognise contemporary Australian urban design of the highest quality and encourage cities, towns and communities across the country to strive for best practice.

The program is unique in that it’s truly multidisciplinary, open to professionals spanning engineering, architecture, landscape architecture and planning, and it only recognises projects, policies and initiatives that successfully transcend any one discipline, acknowledging that good urban design outcomes come from integrated responses.

On the jury was Jon Clements (director, Jackson Clements Burrows), Malcolm Snow (chief executive, National Capital Authority), Jill Garner (Victorian Government Architect), Neil Savery (general manager, Australian Building Codes Board), Cindy Varnier (infrastructure sustainability consultant, GHD), Tim Hunt (Melbourne leader, lighting, Arup), Davina Knox (senior sustainability consultant, WSP) and William Chandler (director, Chandler Consulting Services).
