AIA Brisbane Regional Architecture Awards: ROTHELOWMAN

A ROTHELOWMAN-designed development, developed by Aria Properties, has been recognised by the Australian Institute of Architects’ Brisbane Regional Architecture Awards.

Botanica Residences was awarded a commendation in the Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing category of the awards.

Marked by a ceremony at the State Library of Queensland, the awards salute excellence in architectural design across a range of highly contested categories.

The AIA jury was impressed by Botanica Residences, a sustainable development at the forefront of contemporary design.

The character of the building is defined by its two living green walls, which create a vibrant façade that has quickly become part of the fabric of the South Brisbane area.

Beyond their appeal as living artworks, the vertical gardens – embedded in a non-soil growing medium – encourage natural ventilation and contribute to Botanica’s achievement of the highest possible sustainability rating.

“We are extremely honoured by this prestigious award, especially as it recognises the importance of sustainability to development in Brisbane,” ROTHELOWMAN principal Jeff Brown says.

“Projects such as Botanica Residences that deliver quality high-density housing are a prerequisite for a sustainable city. The proximity of the building to employment and leisure opportunities is entirely consistent with the notion of a twenty- minute city,” Brown says.

Botanica Residences, a $45 million project that has delivered 180 apartments, is designed around a central core, with all residences enjoying enviable views.

Botanica Residences previously achieved the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s highest sustainability credentials, a six-leaf rating in the UDIA’s Enviro Certification Program.
